On 20 May 2021, the 10th Social Science Arbitration Roundtable was hosted by the Institute of International Law of Chinese Academy of Social Science, the Beijing Arbitration Commission and Beijing Arbitration Center, and also co-organized by the Foreign-related Laws Research Centre of Institute of International Law. The participants in the conference are experts involved with governmental departments, judicial bureaus, courts, arbitration centers, various universities, large enterprises, and notable law firms. The experts engaged in substantial discussions surrounding the Roundtable’s theme: “Developing an International Arbitration Center, and Supporting the Establishment of Beijing’s Two Zones”.
International arbitration and foreign-related legal services play an important role in Beijing’s establishment of the ideas behind the “National Service Industry Expanded and Opened Comprehensive Demonstration Zone and Free Trade Pilot Zone” (“Two Zones”). Well-developed and open international arbitration, in concert with good foreign-related rule of law, will foster the business environment in Beijing, China generally, and globally.
With these goals in mind, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), a premier academic organization and research center of the People’s Republic of China, especially in the fields of philosophy and social sciences, organizes events like this. The Institute of International Law at CASS is focused on the research of international and foreign-related law, and our partner Maggie Jia, was honored by her invitation to attend such a high-level meeting, and to offer her input on the practice of international arbitration in China.
